The link above will take you to the most current schedule on the official Gopher Sports site. There are significant changes from previous, normal years:
- There are no non-conference matches scheduled. In previous seasons, the Gophers would typically play a half-dozen or so non-conference matches, including one or two versus national powerhouses such as Stanford or Texas, which helped them prepare for the rugged Big Ten Season. This year, their first match is against Michigan State, and they will have played only Michigan State, Maryland and Purdue before they face Penn State.
- This year’s Big Ten Season will again involve 22 matches, but in a very different format. In previous seasons, the Gophers would play all other Big Ten teams at least once, and most of the other 13 twice, “home & home.” Usually playing these home & home match-ups at least a month apart.
- This year, the Gophers will not play Indiana or Rutgers at all. And play 10 of the other 11 twice, in “double-matches,” played at the same site, typically on consecutive nights. (As hockey has typically been scheduled for ever.) It will be interesting to see how this consecutive night schedule affects the competitiveness of these double-matches. (Will there be bench-clearing brawls?)
- But the Gophs will play home & home against the Badgers, 4 nights apart in mid-March.
